Rumi Mosque & Dialogue Centre organised an Ashura event hosted by Methodist Church, Edmonton. Mrs Emel Yilmaz introduced and presented a brief description and information of how this pudding is cooked and where it comes from. Furthermore, she stated the diversity of its ingredients represented the diverse community in which we live.
Furthermore, minister of the church the Revd David Butterworth talked about the history of Christmas pudding in Christian culture.
By organising such events we can associate the variety of its ingredients with the diversity of our communities. The formation of a delicious dessert from a seemingly unlikely combination of elements symbolises that we too can come together and form close friendships. Furthermore, we can use the Ark as an analogy of our one world and the fact that in order to co-exist in peace and harmony, we need to understand one another.
The evening concluded with guests enjoying home-made Ashura.
